Real Talk: Hip Hop Education for Social Justice (Real Talk) is an after-school program for elementary school aged students aimed at promoting issues of social justice through Hip Hop education. Real Talk is based on the core practices of Social Justice Education (SJE). SJE is the process of students acknowledging, reflecting, critiquing and moving toward practical goals to challenge and transform social injustices.
The curriculum of Real Talk is also aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Georgia’s Common Core Performance Standards for English language arts and mathematics were developed as part of CCSS. These standards provide a framework for what students are expected to know and what teachers are accountable to teach.
